I frequently visit the grocery store in my work out attire, gym shorts with pockets. i frequently enter the store holding both my phone and wallet in one hand. If I’m thinking about them, no problem. However after setting my phone down once at a self check out cash register (leaving it) and leaving it in a shopping cart in the parking lot of the grocery store, I acquired a phone strap and frequently hang it around my neck.

I mentioned gym shorts which have short pockets, and on one occasion several months ago, with my wallet in a pocket, after returning to my car, I discovered my wallet was missing. After searching for it, including returning to the store I discovered as I sat down it had slipped out of my pocket fell down and slid under the driver’s seat.

On Monday I left the house holding a box, phone and wallet headed for the gym. To make a semi-long story short, at the gym, I discovered my wallet was missing and several hours later discovered it laying in the grass in the front yard next to where I park the car.

Now besides the possible senior moments perception of this narrative, which requires no discussion, 😛 I’d like to ask does anyone have experience with the credit card sized USB trackers that can be placed in your wallet and located with a phone app?

I’ve been looking online and see some with 1 year batteries (that then the card must be replaced) and others with rechargeable batteries that last 2-5 months per charge, and one with a replaceable battery. They run $20-40.

Embrace Apple Pay and leave the wallet at home? I'm terrible with my wallet and iPhone. Always checking where they are. This would just never happen to me. But different shorts with a zip on the pocket might be better.

This. I’ve never encountered gym shorts that have small pockets like you’re describing.

You could also wait for AirTags.
I have, and went through my wardrobe donating any that I wasn't happy with. Now, when I go shopping I include that in my requirements list.

I use Apple Pay and at least 3 fast food places I visit regularly include an app and frequent deals making them very appealing. :) Some retail don’t offer it, at least their registers don’t work with it.

I have this problem with my car keys. With my wallet, I learned. After losing my wallet when I was 17 and beginning the process of replacing a driver's license and social security card as well as all the other little BS stuff I had in there I found it in my school's restroom, right where I had left it. Scared the hell out of me because without my wallet I had no ID if a cop pulled me over.

After locking myself out of my car no less than four times (I don't know the actual amount) throughout the 1990s I finally put my keys on a fastener which hangs off a belt loop. At a certain point of hitting myself in the head so many times I told myself, to start memorizing where my wallet, keys (and now my phone) are whenever I lay them down. In the car, at work, at home, on my person, there is ONE spot where everything goes. If I walk away from a spot I force a mental check about where everything is.

Unlike the late 80s and early 90s, losing my stuff has an impact now that goes beyond just me. Sorry, I know that doesn't speak to your question, but it's how I deal with this.
