So I have heard about macbook pros having issues with their trackpads not working, however none really with the macbook. Anyway, the trackpad on my macbook is almost completely unusable. It will constantly highlight EVERYTHING, as well as drag things around. It will also click, not once, not twice, but 5+ times. One I plug a mouse into the usb (with the trackpad being ignored) the probably will stop, but once I unplug it and try to use the trackpad again, it still continues to fail.

Besides "just use the mouse", are there any other suggestions? I'm not sure if its a hardware or a software problem, any suggestions would be helpful.

Most likely hardware unless it's only with specific applications.

You can try cleaning the trackpad with a dry cloth, otherwise the top case will need to be replaced.
