I took the magic track pad, even though I alwyas hated the track pads on my the Apple laptops. I have a nice three button rollerball Logitech mouse that works great and I have connected to my iMac, and a nice pad for when I finally buy into Lion.

I use both with my iMac. My iMac came with the Magic Mouse but I recently purchased the Magic Trackpad to try it out and am glad I did. In my opinion the two devices complement each other.

I use the trackpad and wired trackball combination. Trackpad is ideal for OS X 10.7 although it is good to have the trackball for games and those precious moments before the computer can recognise its wireless peripherals.

Logitech 5 button mouse and Trackpad make for a perfect fit.
In order to take advantage of all the new features in Lion the trackpad is great. And for gaming and casual surfing the logitech mouse is perfect.
The mouse also gives your wrist a break which is good.

I absolutely hate the MM. The trackpad is cool, but I still love my logitech scroll mouse. :/

I ordered the trackpad with my 2011 i7 iMac and won't go back to a regular mouse if I can help it. I was taking a risk here, but I had my MS mouse I had been using with my old PC to fall back on if I needed to. If you can't complete a swipe in one motion, you can hold it and use the other hand if need be.

Regular mice seem old-tech by comparison. Personally I find that swipes and taps are more intuitive than operating the mouse but that may be less true for experienced mouse users.

I use the trackpad mainly, because I thought the mouse wouldnt do all the gestures. However, it does many of them. Instead of 2 finger swiping between webpages, the mouse uses a singe finger swipe. 2 finger side swipes on the mouse change spaces. For other needed gestures like apps (launchpad) you can create Hot Corners. So to be honest it is a complete matter of preference. Don't let anyone say the trackpad does things the mouse can't. Just not true.

I have the Better Touch Tool configured with the Magic Mouse and it is capable of dozens upon dozens of gestures.

Three finger swipe up = Mission Control (three finger swipe down to close)

Four finger swipe up = Launchpad (four finger swipe down to close)

One finger swipe left/right in Safari = forward and backward pages

Two finger swipe left = switch desktops/full screen apps

Right finger tap on link = open link in new tab

Tip tap right = move one tab to the right

Tip tap left = move one tab to the left

Three finger tap = close current tab

I could go on....

Looks the MM is on it's way out, so if you want one - get it now!

Haven't tried the track pad personally. but I can't see it being much use with Illustrator etc :(

Very Right Handed.

I use both. Trackpad works great with Lion, although I have been using it with my iMac since SL. I use the magic mouse for precision work (Aperture).

Got my TrackPad just two days ago, put my MM on the right and TP on the right because I am "Very Right Handed". As you can imagine things started to get in the way. So as a trial run, I placed TP on the left and used it that side for two hours, I never looked back. Keep both it's amazing what you can do when you try. :D

Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad?

I am going to buy a new iMac. But I am thinking about choosing the trackpad or the Apple Magic Mouse.
For the trackpad, I can have multi guesture in Mac OS X Lion.
But for the Magic Mouse, I can only get a little multi guesture in Lion. But mouse is better to control a desktop.:confused::confused:

My iMac came with Magic Mouse, bought the Magic Trackpad extra cause I wanted all the gesture functionality. Now, I don't even turn the mouse on...just sits there looking forlorn! My only regret is that I didn't tell them I wanted trackpad instead of mouse and save $69. For serious photo work, I use a Wacom Intuos Tablet and Pen. Much more precise control than a mouse, even the one Wacom includes with package!
Unkei

I have and use both. The trackpad I use for most everything except fine manipulation. For instance, if I'm playing a game and have to turn a crank, it is way easier to do with the MM. I also keep a wired mouse around for when I forget to change the batteries.:D

trackpad and third party mouse. i cant deal with the magic mouse's ergonomics for long term use.

I switch between the two. I use the mouse more so with bootcamp. Gestures is nice with osx so I use trackpad when the opportunity arises.

The primary ergonomic hurdle for both seem to be a need to keep your hand arched upward to avoid feedback from contact with the palm or length of the fingers.

I thought my Magic Mouse was terribly uncomfortable (to the point of causing discomfort, even pain) for a few days, after which I adjusted and came to love her like a spouse. We are faithful to one another; I fraternize with no other.

Have others experienced similar relations with their Trackpad? I'm curious.

I was the same way! I even returned my MM at first, but repurchased it and forced use for a few days and fell in love with it. I am trying the something wight he MT right now, but it isn't working well...

i love my MM as well. so much that i haven't even considered getting anything else. i know most people say the ergonomics is terrible and how the palm doesn't rest on it comfortably due to the arch but i have no such issue. i don't rest my palm on it to cause the arch. my hand lays on it pretty flat cause its only the top half of my hand thats on it.

I got both. Not in love with either. Anyone know of a white Logitcec or other manufacture mouse. It has to match lol
