I have both a magic mouse and trackpad. Obviously all these sort of things are personal preference, but the mouse sits there never being used, while I use the trackpad.

The TrackPad is Excellent

I'm an Apple rookie. Other than the iPhone, my brand-new 21.5 i7 is my first Apple product. Long-time PC user. Got the iMac BTO Saturday.

I ordered both the Magic Mouse and TrackPad with the iMac. After only 3 days, the TrackPad is as seamless and linear as it could be from a logic and ergonomics viewpoint. Great for perhaps everything but MS Office work, but then again - I am just getting used to it. So far - it + plus the Magic Mouse are like the HP business notebooks, for which I use the TouchPad for the web (like the the TrackPad) but the "TrackPoint" (like the Magic Mouse) for MS Office and other format- centric work.

With the rookie caveat - I consider both the Magic Mouse and TrackPad to be essential for the iMac.//

so you are saying a combanation of both is good to have, ill i just might aswell go and buy a trackpad tommorow, j&r here in new york has it for 60 bucks, there isnt a better deal anywhere right?

how about it for the mbp is it even worth to have if you already have the mighty mouse and you have the touch pad of the mbp?

of course it is, this thing is 20x better than your mpb's trackpad lol :D its 80% larger ;)

After watching yesterday's apple keynote, seems like Lion will have alot of gestures to be used with the trackpad.

do u guys think the gestures will be available for the magic mouse aswell or no?

alright so i have a keyboard (wireless) and a mighty mouse (i also have an ipad that i could use my keyboard with) is it better to go trackpad or keyboard?

what do u mean trackpad or keyboard?

i dont know about u but im gonna buy the trackpad tommorow brand new for 60 bucks.

like i said , lion seems very gesture oriented so it will be cool to have a trackpad just for that ;)

The trackpad is awesome. It's curiously the most underrated device that Apple offers.
Its integration with OS X is simply mind-blowing to navigate the tasks on your computer, especially using expose, and in the near future, Mission Control.
If you add BetterTouchTools you extend that amazing experience to basically any app.
I haven't used a mouse on a Mac in maybe 1 year.

well just came back from work and bought my magic trackpad, im using it right now. so far i like it, its pretty cool, my hand feels a little stressed out tho as i need to have it raised up a little to use the trackpad, how do u guys use the trackpad so it doesnt make the hand tired?

I ordered the mouse pad with my iMac, with the intent of using ito replace my logitech rollerball mouse. But I can't. I'm always dropping my fingers down on the pan and finding myself in another place or opening some other window. With three buttons and a roller ball, and swipes caused by moving back and forth, I find I just can't get the precision that I need with the pad.

For me, I'll keep the pad for emergency use, but keep the logitech track ball mouse for regular everyday use.

I recently bought a magic trackpad and am glad I did. I use it with my magic mouse and I think the two devices complement each other.

I find the trackpad is great for everyday mundane use, but I am still having problems mastering the click-drag function, which still feels kinda awkward for me. Another issue was the price. Anyone feel the pricetag should have been 1/2 the original selling price tops?

But I guess that is a nonissue now since I have already sprung for it. :p

Not a helpful response from myself but i can say you get used to it. I don't use anything but the trackpad but then again i'm not on my computer for long periods.

I enabled double tap + lock. So i'm double tapping the object then i can't just drag it around and then a simple tap to let it go.

Otherwise i just use my thumb to hold down the pad at the bottom left and use my index finger to move it around.

takes a bit of getting used to.

Don't bother if you're not getting or don't have Lion. Other than that:

1. Read up on all of the gesture features of Lion.

2. Go to Best Buy or an Apple Store and monpolize an iMac with a touch pad for a while.

Just intuitively I liked the two-finger swipe to scroll very much. I'm about 40% on replacing my Magic Mouse with one.

I have a nice Logitech and the trackpad. Just end up using the TP 90% of the time, even though I keep both on the desk hooked up and ready to go.

BTW, the TP is quite sensitive and is useful for detailed photo work. Which is better may be more a function of whether your hand or your fingers are more steady.

First of all i will admit that i have both. I originally got the mouse to use with my MacBook pro when doing Photoshop work etc for when i was at Uni. Three weeks ago i purchased a new iMac and when in store i opted for the trackpad as their was no need to have two mice.

I got it thinking that i may as well as i would of only ended up with two mice and i didn't see the point in this. I have not once used the mouse on the iMac the trackpad works really well especially with Lion which i guess most people will be purchasing one when they see all the features witin Lion that are built for the trackpad.

Personally i think it all depends what you use the computer for. If like me on my MacBook you do alot of photo editing then no its not practical for this but if you are just browsing the net and not doing anything too accurate then it will be awesome!

Anyway enough said for me the trackpad and mouse are 1-1.

All depends on what tasks you are performing!
