    Hello everyone,

    I've recently bought a mid 2010 17-inch MBP. It's an i5 with 8GB of RAM (1066 MHz) and SSD.

I absolutely love this form factor and the 1920x1200 screen at 17 inches. I really want to keep this computer for a few years. Most of what I do is programming/office/school type stuff on it.

Here's my question: Should I trade it for a late 2011 17-inch MBP with the 2.4 GHz i7? Not only is the CPU quite a bit more powerful (twice the cores/threads), it also takes 16 GB of RAM where mine will only take 8 GB (at 1066 MHz instead of 1333).

I'm mainly concerned about the logic board issues that came with the AMD graphics of the 2011 models. They're old enough now that Apple won't be much help I suspect, and I don't want to be out hundreds of dollars.

The price isn't all too bad since I'd be able to sell the current one for only a bit less, I suspect. Call it a few hundred dollars. I'm just wondering if the i7 quadcore with 16GB of faster RAM will make it much better to run over the next 2-3 years.

I very much appreciate any insights.

The repair program for the 2011 runs until the end of the year, however they do use poorly refurbished parts that often fail again within months and after 2016 your on your own.
