trade in 12" macbook with no macOS installed?

I'm wondering what is gong to happen if I send apple my 12" MacBook with no macOS installed? I was following the steps to erase and re-install macOS but now when I do command + r to get into recovery to install Catalina I get the wifi login. When I try to enter the wifi info of my router it doesn't accept the password.

Reset your Mac to factory settings to prepare it for a new owner.

If you are positive you are trying to use the correct password, it shouldn’t be a problem for Apple to accept. If at all possible, it would be best to do the trade-in in person at an Apple store. That way, you get your exact amount right away. If you have to send it in, there is a chance you may get less than the quoted price, as Apple uses a third party service with the mail in.

I read some where that changing the channel to the wifi on the router would allow me to connect to the wifi. Another problem I am having is that my router doesn't have away to change channels. I'll keep trying different things tonight if nothing works then I'll do what you suggested and take in person.

I wouldn’t spend too much time trying to mess with the Wifi problem. Apple can easily install the OS a lot quicker at their store than you can at home. Hope you get a good price.

Try going to 192.168.87.1 or 192.168.1.1 in a web browser.

In any case, you could also try using your phone's cellular networking through hotspot sharing to do this if you have unlimited data

I finally got Catalina installed.

The problem was a weak wifi signal to my bedroom. I didn't know about it since I have 3 to 4 full bars in my iMac so I had to walk to the strongest part of my house to get it installed.
