I'm going to get rid of my White 16gb At&t 4S. I was able to create a trade-in for $400 credit just a few hours before the iPhone 5 announcement on Amazon (it's down to $375 now I think)

Should I take the Amazon credit or try to sell it for cash and hope to get about $375 cash for it? I'm having a hard time deciding which way would be best to maximize my dollar. I shop Amazon often... but now that they are taxing in California, it will probably be a bit less.

You can get so many things from Amazon that it's nearly as good as cash. Even if you spent the whole credit on laundry detergent, that's $400 worth of laundry detergent you won't have to buy. Not as fun as cold hard cash I guess, but hey, it's as good as money in the bank!

I frequent Amazon a lot. In fact I would probably choose the cash just because I know I might get frivolous things off Amazon. :p

No bites at all on Craigslist... There is too much competition and my iPhone is due in a few days if I want to get the Amazon Credit... I'm just going to do that instead.

Thanks all for your help!

Stop talking nonsense you can sell that in 10 minutes in LA!

Amazon is $370
Gazelle is $218

$152 is definately more than $40, but that's the 4S.

The 4 is $79 more on Amazon, $210 vs $131 for the 16GB VZW version. Just about double your $40 requirement.
For my 32GB iPhone 4
Gazelle - $178
Amazon - $212
eBay instant - $235

Quoted both as good (not like new). Both quotes were after the iPhone 5 anouncement. I use Amazon enough that it's a better option for me. Still need to check out eBay instant sale.

eBay instant for the win

Meet at Starbucks or something for Craigslist.

Theres a Krispy Kreme right next to our police station that I do all my Craigslist transactions at. I figure the proximity to the cops will make them think twice and absolutely NOBODY can run very far after eating one of their glazed donuts without feeling a bit "uncomfortable" down there.

Take the cash and be done with it unless you expect to shop a lot at Amazon. If you dont, you'll probably end up overpaying for crap that you dont need @ amazon just to get rid of the gift card.

$400 at amazon.

Would go through that in a week or two.

We buy just about everything from them, including some food

I posted my 4s 32Gb on my facebook page for 375 and had 3 emails from friends in 10 minutes. Sold it for 350 and a trade to use his 3gs until my Iphone 5 Arrives. Saved the posting time on Ebay and possible mugging from Craigslist.

You would be surprised who still just wants a 4s, the guy who bought it dropped his off a boat in Waikiki 2 weeks ago, so perfect timing.

That's not bad. I kind of wanted to stretch my dollar further though.

If you buy a lot of stuff from Amazon and could use the credit there, then I can heartily recommend them. I sent my 32 GB iPhone 4S in to them last week with a condition of "Like New"; they accepted it and paid me $455. I'm off to get an iPhone 5 for a net cost of ~$100. (It helped that I had a friend who uses Amazon a lot more than I do, so we did the trade-in through his account, and he paid me cash once he got the credit deposited.)

I just wish UPS hadn't frakked up the delivery, so Amazon could have received it in time for the iPhone 5 preorders. As it stands now, I'll either have to wait, or try standing in line on Friday.

Incidentally, I have also had good experiences with Gazelle in the past, but nobody was offering anywhere near as much as Amazon was.
