I'm trading in an MBP 2015 with Apple. Looks great except the bottom has sweat marks from it having been on my upper legs.
Will that disqualify it from being classified as "good"? Apple's checklist first asks whether there's swelling (no) then the following.
Anyone knows how this is handled?

Is your Mac in good physical shape?

See what this means
Is the screen free of cracks, pixel loss, and lines? Is the body free of major scratches and dents? And are all the keys where they should be?

Well, I can't say for sure but what I can see is it's free of major scratches and dents :)
I'm not sure what they'll accept (or expect) of a 5 year old laptop.
Maybe somebody with more experience could comment.

What bugs me about it is that this part of a laptop is essentially never in view; I had actually forgotten about it. My other option is to buy a new bottom and 'eat the $50 cost rather than get the unit back.

Having had many MBPs through my hands that were used by employees: this kind of damage is rare in my experience and as such will easily lead to whomever taking it to rate it pretty low.
On the second hand market the bottom beings scuffed is however rarely an issue in my experience, esp. on a 5 year old machine. You might get much more there than for a trade-in.

I only do trade ins when the machines are in rough to very rough state or when I think that selling them to a private person would lead to complications -e.g. the system not being 100% stable anymore or so-. For the rest if they're company owned and need invoices made etc: I'd rather sell them to a company than to an individual who then gets consumer rights - not going to do support on machines I sell to get rid of.
But privately owned machines that still work great: I'll always sell them myself on the 2nd hand market - brings in much more out here than a trade-in.

That's a good consideration except the local market is flooded with MBPs right now - and I found that the size of the SSD barely registered. Was offered $540 with a meager 256GB and only $10 more for a bigger one, meaning I can resell the OWC 1Tb separately that was in there. Well, I have time to try to sell it privately until I have to send mine in.

They are insanely picky and I definitely would not send it to Phobio (Apple) as they could easily give you a value of $0. I would sell to someone locally or one of the big buyers that you can actually send a pic to beforehand.

glad I asked.
Does anyone know who pays the shipping if I decline their trade-in offer and they need to return it to me?

I know many of these places don't return it if it's rated much less than described. At least they don't on phones. I would sell it locally. BTW, what are they offering?

Offering $540 for a 2015 MBP 2.5 Ghz i7, 256GB 16GB. But I have 1TB and 2TB I could stick in there for local sale

Sell locally or on ebay. Phobio that Apple uses will significantly mark down the trade in for any slight cosmetic damage.
