Just to clarify I am on the Apple upgrade program and upgrade through Apple each year and send my phone back and they close out my citizens one loan.

I’m doing instore pick up for the first time for my iPhone upgrade program.

I don’t want to trade in my phone at the store same day. I want to make sure I back it up correctly and everything.

can I ask for them to send me a trade in box or go back to store later.

on release day I feel it would be crazy for them to get through all the phone setups for everyone anyway.

Any experience or suggestions on what to ask?

In my experience, they always send you the box for trade in. I have never done the trade in at the store even with trading the phone in.

When I did both of our phones for in store pick up.... we also got the "sending you a box" and it shows on our order that they are mailing us a box for the trade ins.

I'm like you.... I want to make sure everything goes fine with the back up and restore before sending off the phone. I have had issues in the past, although not the last couple of phones, where the restore of my back up didn't work and I had to repack up the old phone!

You do not have to trade in your phone when you pick up. I’ve done it last 2 years. You don’t even have to open new phone. You pick up and have a good day. Go home and set it up in peace. Then you’ll get a box. Return it. Or don’t return it. Sale it and pay off the balance. That’s what I’ve been doing.

Thanks! I don’t see that they sent a trade in box yet. I forget when they ship those out.
Aren’t they usually shown on your order page too? Or it’s separate email?

Doesn’t matter right now. It will show up next week or week after you receive your phone. If anything call Apple and confirm.

ours are both on our order page.
Did you do pick up in store this time around?

and it’s saying they sent you a box.

What’s funny is the email says they will send me a box if ordered for delivery or pick and mentions nothing of instore trade in. But the app mentions trade in instructions and doesn’t mention a box.

the email seems more current with COVID restrictions on it.

I'm doing a in store pick up and just like last year, no option for in store trade in. I have to mail it out again just like last year. I rather just turn it in right away and not have to worry about it mailing it and it getting lost or stolen by someone.

Here’s what I find interesting. People think that Apple handles the trade in themselves. They sub it out just like ATT. It is a bit nerve racking waiting for trade in verification. But I have never had an issue.
I believe it depends on what is being traded in. I think iPhone upgrade program users get their devices evaluated by Apple themselves, as the phone is technically “owned” by the underwriting bank, Citizens One. There are likely as few hands involved because it makes sense the bank would only trust Apple to evaluate the hardware before the loan can be considered done with. All the iUP phones I ever sent back have always gone to one of Apple’s distribution/logistics centers outside Sacramento (the AI facility in Elk Grove) and Apple emailed me letting me know they received it and the associated loan will be closed out.

If the phone being traded in is a non iUP phone then it likely goes to their third party partner for evaluation, which is… Phobio? Is it still them? *shudder*

I've only done the trade in thing once before and it was for an in store pickup where they examined my phone on the spot, issued a credit, and had me work through the backup/restore process.

This time around, I chose for them to ship to me (not in store pickup). In my order confirmation email, I found the following text:

"You’ll receive a trade-in kit with a box, a prepaid label, and packing and shipping instructions to send back your old device."

What do you mean no option. In the Apple app. Their is literally trade in instructions that say they evaluate your phone in store to trade in.

this is for the Apple upgrade program btw.
Not sure if that’s what people are referring to.
Is the process different for iPhone upgrade vs a regular trade in?

You mean pay off the balance of your citizens one loan?
Just making sure you are referring to the Apple upgrade program.

Yep. Had to get mine in store to get it friday (cuz it took so long for the darned military site to cooperate and order.... my release day delivery slipped to oct! but I digress!). since I have to go to the store to pick up mine anyways.... did hubby's for pick up too and both of ours have the shipping of box to us!

I had an issue with at&t one year.... they sent the phone back to me not once... but twice saying I sent it late! even though it was sent on time and everything in their system showed that along with the tracking.... my final return to them had quite the nasty note in it! lol! so I hope apple doesn't use the same folks out of Texas.... I forget their name....

I never thought apple did their own trade ins since it even says their "trade-in partner" will be shipping the box.

I use the website and there is no option. The only option is they ask where to send the kit to your house.

I did try the app and it does say something about trading it in the store for Tmobile customers. You have to click on the see how the trade in works, to see it though.

I didn't even get that (the where to ship) it just shows on our orders it's coming to me since I did the ordering.

I was able to select in store trade-in for my in-store pickup. I am trading in my wife's iPhone 11 via AT&T's trade in program. I have instructions to bring my trade-in when I come to pick up her new iPhone 13 pro. It may depend on the store.

I have t mobile too. I don’t see anything about trade in via mail. It says trade in in store in the instructions.

I’m assuming we did same.

I have Apple upgrade and ordered new phone and they started a new citizens loan.

Very strange. We have different instructions on the Apple app

I used the website not the app. Since I already have my order in and didn't want to mess with it, I can't do it on the app.

Maybe it’s cause of store but I’m just trying to get an understanding of how people instructions are on the Apple App Store.
