Trade-In T-Mobile watch to Apple Store

I got my ultra via T-Mobile and making payments still. I’d like to upgrade to U2. T-Mobile will only give me $100 on trade-in but Apple will give me ~380. I’m considering trading into Apple, paying the difference off in full, and then continuing my regular payments to T-Mobile.

Anyone tried this with T-Mobile or a different carrier? Was it allowed and/or any unknown hiccups in the process?

When you trade in with Apple they ask “do you own this watch?” Which you don’t.
Pay off your watch first and then you can trade it in…

It should be automatically flagged & a message shown on the in-store devices saying contact the carrier.
