Does anyone know if the trade in store can occur if the order is still in processing? (if you haven't been charged yet)
I believe in that scenario you'd receive a Gift Card for the trade-in, and you could then cancel the order, and re order using the Gift Card. Not sure the Apple Store can add a payment source at that point in the order.

Ok so my best bet is to wait until I’m charged ? The particular way I ordered , I wouldn’t be able to reorder without the additional credits and discount until it reset aftet the cancel for a week or so :(

You're saying it would take a week for your credit card to remove the pending charge? It's too bad it takes that long, but I've seen that happen. Because of your scenario, you may want to call or chat with Apple Retail Support to ask how best to do it. As far as I know (and if I undestand your situation), you'd have to create a new order to use the gift card as partial payment.

My order is still processing , I haven’t been charged yet lol . Technically there is nothing to refund yet

I didn’t have this exact situation but in my case, I received a gift card/credit to my Apple account (because the condition of my trade-in was better than I thought). I had to call twice but I finally reached someone who was able to refund the amount totaling the gift card to my Amex and then apply the Apple account credit.

It was about a month ago for my base 14-inch same-day delivered from the local Apple store.

Lucky you... that took me four phone calls.

I was able to do the trade-in at a store even though I was sent the trade-in box to mail out. The process was very straight forward and took only about 15 minutes total. I was given the full estimate of what I was quoted online by completing the questionnaire.

I was also able to have the money credited to the credit card (or any credit card) I used to buy the original 14" MBP in-store as well. Some mentioned you need to accept the physical gift card and then call to do this, but I was able to do it in person. In the end, it was very quick and a much more preferable method versus mail it in to Phobio.

Did the trade in box get shipped same time at the order prepared to ship ?
My trade in box arrived 11/1 and my Pro was delivered 11/8. I loaded the Pro from scratch, clean install.

Apple received my Air 11/15 and i was informed yesterday, 11/27 my trade in was completed and would hit my Apple Card in the next 5 days.

My credit cards has been charged and order went from Processing to Preparing to Ship. Should I attempt the in-Apple Store trade in of the MBP I setup to trade in as part of the order?

I did the trade in, in store on Black Friday. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. They let me keep the charger from my 15" MBP 2016 which I can still use with the new model so I'm happy now I have a spare charger in another room. The amount I was given was the same as on-line. The trick to go fast in and out is that you tell them you know what model you want and have no questions. If you have ANY questions then you have to wait and wait. I had none.

Confirmed in store that the trade in can’t be conducted at the Preparing for Ship stage . We went thru the process and at the end it wasn’t eligible to be applied yet to the Web order . Tried to knock it put while I was in town , next attempt is a 6 hour Round trip drive lol

Update , I returned to the Apple Store after confirming my order status was shipped and I had the email for the trade in box . They were able to process my trade in and credit it to one of the credit cards I used . That credit card I only charged 1700 of the order, the trade in had tax included and that full amount went to my credit card (1827.50). I am glad to have that weight off my shoulders lol

I ended up getting my new 14" from Amazon for the availability and shipping--I got it less than a week after order, so much better than the shipping estimates by Apple. Then I traded in my old 2019 intel MBP to Apple via Phobio or whoever their "trade in partner" was. It was very easy--I just dropped the computer off at Fed Ex (no charger or cables) and they packaged and sent it, then I got a gift card for the full trade in quote a few days later. While it would have been nice to get a partial refund for the actual purchase of the new computer, it wasn't a big deal as the overall convenience was worth it.
