sure, as a valued customer you will additionally receive a 2018 Tesla free of charge ;)

when did you buy the 2017?

nice one. I meant to exchange and pay the difference like with the iphones. I purchased mine in July 2017. Warranty just expired.
Just look at Apple's trade in program

As you can see, you'll get "up to" 1,000. Is that acceptable to you?

Apple do a trade option, but I wouldn't bank on getting much back for it.

Any sort of "sell last years model to buy this year's model" is going to be expensive. Especially since the warranty is expired.

You'd get the most money typically selling it yourself, but there are hassles and risks inherent in doing so.

I'd also suggest looking into what offer you can get from MacMeAnOffer.com, the intake arm of MacOfAllTrades.com -- I've sold them a couple things and had a good experience. Might also be worth seeing what OWC would offer (macsales.com).

Why are you showing such a low value for your 2017? Apple is giving me $865 for my 2016 13".

I know I can get more selling it myself on eBay or CL, but I don't want the hassle.

Just a heads up if you do this. You cannot take a MacBook to the Apple Store to "trade-in" like you can iOS devices. You have to send it in to Apple's third party vendor Phobio who handles this for them, then you will get a Apple gift card. Once you receive the card, you can go back to the Apple store and they will apply that money to your credit card you used to buy the 2018.

FWIW, Apple offered me $850 for my 2015 15" MBP with 512 GB SSD and dGPU and one year remaining on AppleCare

macMeAnOffer (thanks deeddawg) offered $1070.

Holy crap. Counting sales tax and AC+ that would be a ~$2,000 bath for one year of use.
AC+ can be refunded on a prorated basis, so that helps a little.

But otherwise, yes. Replacing a computer every year is going to cost a heck of a lot of money.

Especially if you buy a bunch of upgrades since those typically yield pennies on the dollar in the resale market.

Just like cars or most other products. The used market cares less about options and upgrades. Screen size is most important. Disk size or memory next. The rest who cares.
