I would be more concerned about your impulse buying and selling. Being Apple fans that can sure get expensive.

The fact that you bought a phone that you only use once or twice a week means you really did not need it (impulse buy) Then you sold it without finding out how much it was actually worth (impulse sell).

We have all been guilty of this. What I do is no matter how good the deal seems I wait a day. Gives me time to do some comparison shopping and think it through. Yea I've missed out on a few great deals, but I've saved myself the misery of making bad deals and then fretting about it on a forum.

Edit: Sorry. Missed your post above. Must have been typing at the same time. Your reasoning seems sound. But I still stand by my impulse advice.

I deliberately wanted to extend the contract in order to
protect my Verizon unlimited data plan. I was just going
to order the $1 cheap flip-phone to extend the contract
for another 2 years, but when Best Buy was having the
$1 special on the 32gb iPhone 7, I figured, why not? :)

Good thing I did it as well... Verizon just recently ended
contracts for everybody. At least now I don't have to
worry about it until the end of 2018. :)

I guess the $360 I got was just fine. I had my co-worker
call the pawn/gun shop this morning and ask about iPhones.
Yup, they already put it up for sale at $429.

How does your Verizon Unlimited plan differ from what Verizon now offers as Unlimited? Just curious if your fervor for keeping your plan had real purpose or not?

for one thing, it only costs $24/month after corporate discount.
Verizon does not allow corporate discount on the new unlimited plans. :(

It is different.
The new plan is way better than the old UDP :D

The new unlimited plan comes with tethering and unlimited voice/text, which is better..

However, with old UDP and corporate discount, I'm only paying $103/month for 3 lines. (since I avoided the increase to $49 for UDP for now, by extending the contract) Also, I should be able to safely use around 50gb/month/line without any fear, at least until end of 2018(but Verizon will obviously change its mind again at some point before then)

Jeeze i sold my iPhone 5 for 290 last week

Where are these people who buy old phones for that much? :)
Dont' they look for sale prices at places like Best Buy stores? :D
(where I purchased my Verizon iPhone SE 64gb for $349 full
retail last Christmas)

People aren't buying the 7's. 3 days after launch I couldn't sell a 128 unlocked 7 for even $500. Just because people have them listed higher on sites doesn't mean they are selling for that much. If you feel like you made out, then obviously it's a great deal :)

Tethering, unlimited calls and texts, very good international perks etc...
Before you didn't care about the money when selling a brand new i7 for $360 and now you're concerned about saving a few bucks with a FAN discount? :D
lol
There's many people that purchase hundreds of used idevices every day via various outlets.
They dont want to go to best buy and sign a contract or cant take advantage of various sales that go up and down during different times and via different re sellers. The iphones hold their value very well.

$540 current average price for a 32GB i7. And they are selling fast.
Not sure how you tried to sell it, 3 days after launch it shoud fly and sell like hotcakes.

well, the saving is per month and it does add up after 24 months.... even the Verizon corporate store manager who looked into my account situation told me that I was better off keeping my old UDP for now. She is one of those rare Verizon corporate employees who don't lie and cheat customers... known her for almost 10 years at that store and will be sad to see her go when she retires later this year.

as for the iPhone 7 that I sold the the gun shop.... they only took the phone itself from me, so I now have a mint iPhone 7 box, along with the all accessories, all never used or taken out of the box:

charger, SIM removal tool, Lightning charging cable, Lightning-to-3.5mm headphone adapter, and of course Lightning jack earbuds. Can the iPhone 7's included Lightning jack earbuds be plugged into the iPhone SE Lightning jack? I want to verify this before I plug it in. :) Thanks!

on order: 19 with MOS (4th gen)

Nice.

I EDC'd a 26 for 14 years until my recent swap to a Shield. I would've gone with the 43 also except I'm in CA and we can't have those evil Gen 4's.

wait! what!!!??? why can't you have gen 4 in CA? :( there goes my dream of moving to CA in a few years. :(

*never mind.. just looked it up... wow, at this rate, will California pass a new law requiring firearms to be sold with silencer/exhaust to filter out the noise and prevent air pollution? and probably another law requiring Apple to implement solar charging for future iPhones to protect the environment? :)

even iPhone 8/10 COMES OUT , IPHONE7 STILL WORTH MORE THAN 400

When Best Buy frequently has it on sale for $499 to $549 full retail (or $429, if doing DPP), why would anybody buy used(even if mint condition iPhone 7 32gb formore than 400? [confused]

They never have it for that price without signing up for a new plan or a contract or device plan. You still not getting it.
Those specials when switching or opening up a new line or other binding deal with a wireless carrier is NOT full price. Full price i7 32GB sold at Best Buy is $699

So because you bought it with a contract for a $1 you think the full price is a dollar?
Any idea how contracts work for the passed 10+ years?

I've done those deals more than a few times. :)

When Best Buy offers the iPhone 7(or any other phone) for $19/month with 24-month device payment plan, I just add a new line to my account. There is a $20 activation fee charged by Verizon. I take the phone home and pay off the entire DPP balance in a couple of days. So the phone become $480 + $20(activation) + prorated service fee/tax for 3 days of service. That's not even taking into account the frequent trade-in deals offered by Best Buy. I keep several $10 prepaid smartphones just for that purpose because Best Buy offers $200 trade-in credit even on those cheapie phones.

Back in November, I also did a similary deal when Best Buy had the Samsung Galaxy S7 deal. The 24-month device payment special was $18 per month for 24 months. In addition, Best Buy trade-in special was $200 for my Verizon prepaid LG Optimus Exceed(which I bought last year for $14 from Walmart clearance sale and never used) So, the DPP balance was $432 and at checkout, Best Buy took off another $200 for the trade-in. The balance became $232, making the DPP agreement less than $10 per month for 24 months. I paid off the DPP balance and closed that line two weeks later, so the prorated cost for for that line was around $16. Final cost for the S7 was just under $250.

Done that too many times and Verizon or Best Buy must not like me very much. :)

As for contract.. I've always renewed my Verizon contracts during the same billing period that it expired, in order to keep the line always under contract. Can't really fully switch to another carrier because both AT&T and T-Mobil have really bad signal in my town(even today). Besides, Verizon was a whole lot cheaper with corporate discounts. I always look out for $1 or under $100 deals on flagship phones at every renewal time for my 3 lines. (since I always had to keep three lines anyway, no point in not getting new phones when they that cheap)

Yes but those deals are clearly not full price purchases.
You need to have an account, open up a device payment plan, pay activation fees, get credit check and qualify for the next monthly device plan, add another line, close the line and many other hoops to jump through.
That's the part all these people want to bypass and just get the phone.
The used iPhone business is huge.
There's plenty of companies that buy and resell used iPhones making tons of money.
