Just ran a search of Trademark applications by Apple Computer at http://tess.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=tess&state=m2vice.1.1

No iwalk or similar sounding device, but some of the more interesting recent applications are Gigawire, Edview, Airmac, ipicture, powerschool and ischool. The last two are the most recent (9/21/01 and 9/28/01). The descriptions are not particularly revealing (to me anyway) but appear to involve telecommunications peripherals and related software.

Any ideas?

I've already investigated some of these. Apparently Airmac is the japanese version of Airport. Edview was Apple's educational version of iReview. And if you do a whois on ipad.com you will find that Apple does not own it.
