My Trådfri gateway looses its connection with the Trådfri bulbs on a regular basis: more or less once a month. Every time this happens HomeKit reports 'no response' from all of the linked bulbs. Restarting the gateway fixes things until next time...

This is easily fixable, if I'm at home, as I just unplug the gateway and plug it in again - causing a restart. But if I'm away and the gateway looses the connection the lights stay on or off according to how they were at the time and no automations work. Which sort of negates the automation rather.

I'm considering moving to the Hue gateway as Trådfri bulbs are supposed to work (using ZigBee) with the Hue. But before I do this has anyone any advice as to how to keep the Trådfri gateway 'up'?

And, second question, is the Hue gateway more reliable?

My tradfri gateway was losing its connection every few days. Very annoying. My workaround was to use a smart socket and set up an automation to reboot the gateway in the middle of the night on a daily basis. Its not elegant but seems to do the trick and I can also do it remotely if I need to.

Thanks for replying. Good idea. Better not use a Trådfri smart socket though!

This would also be a good idea if there is a power failure. The Trådfri gateway starts up quicker than the Internet router, so it has to be restarted after the router is running to get a connection.

Been using gateway for over a year, and it was quite reliable with about 20 lights. Recently have gone up to near 60 lights and get all sorts of problems from disconnects, to lights not responding at all, some lights not responding, and now the eve buttons have 'died' as well.

Looks like will have to do another complete tradfri reset and maybe even delete and re-add home as the reset was done last month too, and of course its a great annoyance adding back all the bulbs and automations.

I have the same problem. Don’t have a solution expect a power cycle. Very annoying

This works assuming you already have a spare smart socket. If you don't then it's probably not worth the expense of buying one just for this reason seems like it wouldn't be worth it, considering the hue bridge is less than $50.

Just to update on this. It *appears* that the latest firmware update to the gateway has solved this problem. I've not had lost connections in a while, and the gateway manages to connect to the router even thought the router takes longer to start up.

I hope it keeps going.
