I received a 13" unibody macbook 2 days ago for graduation. My dad was unknowing that Apple was releasing an updated version. I was wondering if Apple would let me return my current MacBook for the newer version? Also, what are the price differences between the new macbooks and mine?

You should be allowed to trade it back in as long as it's under the 14-day window. Let's hope your dad didn't buy it 2 weeks before he gave it to you.

The receipt states that it was purchased on June 2. So I should be able to trade it back in. Does anyone know when the new MacBooks are going to arrive in the Apple Stores?

The only unibody update I know of is the display. Maybe you already have it?

The "white" macbook got a speed bump upgrade but of course that's not the aluminum version which is what you have.

I take it you haven't been watching the WWDC feeds?

According to this article: http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20090608-711048.html The MacBooks received an update, but I am unsure to what all was updated.

A lot.

There's also a refreshed unibody MacBook, with the same built-in battery promising seven hours of life. This machine also gets the SD card slot, a FireWire 800 port, up to 8GB of RAM, upwards of 500GB of storage and a backlit keyboard as standard. If you're wondering, this little 13-incher is now a part of the MacBook Pro line. You just knew Apple couldn't let its remaining whiteBook outperform its more expensive unibody for long, right? It'll be available (today, we expect) in two configurations.
$1,199: 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB DDR3 RAM, GeForce 9400M graphics, 160GB HDD, SD card slot, no ExpressCard
$1,499: 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB DDR3 RAM, GeForce 9400M graphics, 250GB HDD, SD card slot, no ExpressCard

same question. I got a macbook unibody 12 days ago and want to return it. We will have to pay the restocking fee if opened right??

Did anyone notice mobileme is listed as 69$? I thought it was 99$.

Is there some sort of a discount?

i am in the same boat as you are. I bought the macbook 12 days ago with my education discount and a 16gb touch. I am looking for the same answers. I want to return it in store so I can keep the same ipod and get a computer right away rather than do it online. Let me know what you find out.

Also, anyone know when NYC stores will get the new macbook pro 13"???

same boat.

Just waiting for my mac store to get them in stock.

My store's policy is you don't pay restocking fee if you are buying something else so I am lucky.

WHAT AN UPDATE!

7hr battery, new screen, firewire, card reader and backlit keyboards on all of them!!!!

definitely going for the 2.53 now since i get the 4gigs of ram too!!!

I just talked to my local Apple Store. They said they will be able to do the swap for a 10% restocking fee. Also the return policy is if you purchased the MacBook 14 days prior to the announcement of the new ones, and 14 days after the announcement. Thanks to everyone for their help.

If I bought mine online 3 days ago, can I return it in-store or do I have to send it back by mail? I want the new macbook pro. Also, I configured my 13 inch macbook to have 4gb ram and a 250gb hard drive, will I still be able to return it since I did a self configuration set up?

Thanks

Build-to-order machines are non returnable ... you might be able to sell it unopened and recover most of the price.
