Trading in old phone after new iPhone 7 delivered

Has anyone traded in old phone after new iPhone 7 delivered? I was told at the Apple store that next week after my iPhone 7 is delivered I could bring in my iPhone 6 and the box from the 7 and recipeve a trade in for the 6 credited to my credit card even though I will not be buying the iPhone 7 at the store.

Has anyone done this? Just verifying whether the information was right.

Not sure about it, but I will say that a normal wear-n-tear iPhone 6 16GB unlocked (any carrier) but with no cracked screen, no broken home button, nothing else major wrong, should get you $300-$340 on eBay right now. Doubt apple will give you that, minus the 10% eBay takes and it still probably is a lot more than apple gives.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just want to go the easiest most direct route with no implied guarantee from me.
