Trading my MacBook Pro for an iMac - how much cash should be added?

My Macbook:

2012 15.4 quad core i7 2.3ghz, 500gb HD, 4gb RAM, 37 cycles, gt650m 512mb GDDR5 apple care til Jan 2014

His Imac:

2010 27 in 3.2ghz dual core, 1tb hd, 12gb ram, RADEON 5670 512mb gddr3, apple care till dec 2013

Currently sitting at iMac + $700 cash.

So he is giving you the iMac + $700?

You are definitely getting the better end of the deal. Your MacBook sells refurbed for $1600 and the iMac is roughly worth $1300 from the search I did. So you will be ahead by a few dollars. But I ask, why trade to an older machine? Unless you need the money? Why not buy a larger display screen to go with your MacBook if it is real estate you want.

i just don't use it enough. too powerful for me.

its about 3 years old though. i don't think its a good deal since mine is basically newer technology.

Then why not just sell your MacBook for cash and buy the current iMac, if you are concerned about newer technology.

It's the good deal. Take the cash, sell the iMac and then you just turned a profit.
