Does anyone think that maybe Apple should embed trailers into their movies? Maybe make it optional and Apple could perhaps keep them updated automatically in the background and maybe even make the cost of purchase a buck or two cheaper as they would technically be"ads." I always enjoy watching a blu-ray that has a few previews before I watch the main feature. I know people hate ads and so do I but I feel like this would be different.

There's an app for trailers. You could watch as many as you want- even choose the ones you want to see- with that app. It's a pretty good app for that niche.

Once you open the door for insertions, you basically beg for more and more (not necessarily because you want more, but because there's money in it). And then there's "select" and "well done" commercials "in a limited capacity"... and then more of them... and then more (and less relevant)... and then you feel like you are watching more video pushing other stuff to buy than what you are trying to actually watch.

And "making it optional" is just a good hook to get a foot in the door. And then one is NOT optional. And then all are not optional, just like they often are on discs. And then you are starting a stream 20 minutes before you are actually ready to sit down and watch because you learn that 20 minutes is about how long the fluff must mandatorily run before you get to watch what you wanted to watch.

Be careful what you wish for.

Yeah, I guess all of that is probably true. When I watch a blu-ray, especially older ones, there's a few trailers on them and I am usually pleasantly surprised. It kind of it gives me a feeling of being at a movie theater.

Yes, I too can appreciate a good trailer or two (or even three sometimes). BUT- IMO- one of the great aggravations of discs is the forced sequence of trailers that you cannot skip... especially aggravating when the disc is old and we're watching trailers for movies that are also years and years old.

But- IMO- picking & choosing trailers with the trailers app is great. Simulate the cinema except with your own choices of current trailers and see only however many you want to see before starting the main feature. It's one good way to fill a little time while everyone is trying to get ready to watch a main feature.

Now, all that said, you are not the only person that feels like simulating the cinema experience. How about the older 1930s-1950s approach of maybe a good classic cartoon and maybe a 3-Stooges or similar short too?

A good way for Apple to accommodate that would be replicating the "play next" and "play later" features in Apple Music with video. Conceptually, someone could then tag a few trailers of their own choosing, get them into some self-chosen order and then tag a main feature to play after them. Then you as host could basically fake being the cinema owner picking & choosing the viewing experience as you see fit. Since that tech is already mostly in place on the music side, it's probably not a huge leap to apply the same to the video side. Get it working with the trailers app? Maybe get it working with the YouTube app too? Etc. Maybe Apple will get around to that someday?
