So I've got a load of old family videos shot on 8mm (or I think it is 8mm, might not be) film and I want to transfer them to my Mac (though Windows compatibility is essential).

I can only find still film scanners, nothing that will feed actual cine film to USB. Any ideas?

Is it video or film?
With what device do you play the home movies back?

If it is film, you need to contact a service, that can scan the film and give you good quality file or files (preferably not compressed via H.264 or MPEG-2), as there is not really a home product (AFAIK) for this procedure, as it is quite a niche.

Have a look at the yellow pages, as there might be a film laboratory in your area, which you can contact and ask for such a service, or if they can you give any other contacts.
