This is driving me nuts and the worst experience I've ever had with a new phone. The WiFi goes out on the 15 pro max every time the transfer starts so I assume it's only transferring via bluetooth and is going extremely slow, time keeps going up. iCloud doesn't seamlessly transfer so that's bad, what are my options? I've entered my information 10 times already and I really can't do a 6 hour wait.

That’s odd. Sorry about your troubles. I transferred between my 13 Mini and 15P with ease. Took 40min for the transfer to complete.

It's more likely using peer-to-peer WiFi than Bluetooth when the connection to your router drops. The estimate is pretty wild, though -- I had four hours remaining at first. However, I found that if you position them with their tops aligned (as if you were to trying to share contact information in iOS 17), then the transfer speeds up quite a bit.

Doing mine now. Started at 50 mins, dropped pretty fast to 35 minutes. 256GB iPhone 14 Pro Max to 256GB iPhone 15 Max. I just stacked them on top of each other. iCloud transfer is probably faster, but it won’t move everything over right away.

This is a great tip - and I appreciate the point about the peer-to-peer WiFi. I couldn't understand why phones both didn't look connected to my network, and this now makes sense. Thanks!

Mine took over an hour, but I assumed it was because of my over 100GB of data...

Its supposed to "go out" Its peer to peer it doesnt use your WiFi network to transfer.

I wish we could change this. I’m guessing it would have gone much faster.

I was on a time crunch and selected what I thought was the faster option of 15-20 minutes… 1.5 hours later. Had I known it was going to take that long k would have chosen the download from iCloud option. I have very fast internet, and a very fast capable network. It would have been significantly faster.

Updated to 17.0.2 first. Very happy I did the transfer (XS 256GB to 15 Pro Max 1TB). It took about 50 minutes to transfer 117GB.
