I am trying to directly, via ethernet cable, connect my Mac to my Windows Vista computer. I set up ip address static ip of 192.168.0.1/24 for my Mac and 192.168.0.2/24 on my Vista. I then tried mounting a smb drive of the Vista machine and it didnt work. I have tried both straight through and crossover cable.

I can do this easily between to Windows computers but i am having trouble with Windows and Mac. Help please?

direct ethernet connection works...

(i just did this yesterday for the first time)

first, make sure in vista you go to Network & Sharing properties and set everything to the most accessible setting possible (share to public, no password needed, etc).

If your sharing & network window won't open or freezes let me know - i had that problem and there is something extra you have to do to fix that.

After that, you can share certain folders by right clicking them, going to sharing properties and activating it.

Then just follow the instructions here:
