Hi can anyone advise the simplest way to transfer random files from a now removed HDD to a replacement SSD in an Imac Running High Sierra

The old HDD has a powered connector that allows it to run independantly and be connected to the mac externally, but does not seem to be recognised as an external drive when the Imac has booted up as per norm with the new internal SSD?

Any simple direction would be great.

Thanks kindly

Something similar to this should work:

Your device should work. Try reseating the hard drive, change ports, etc. If nothing like that works, your device might be faulty.

I use an external case that can output the HD using a Firewire cable. Then use Carbon Copy Cleaner and clone whatever to the SSD. You can also use CCC the other direction and install a later OS on it.
