Hi guys

I just bought an ipad mini and I am also a iphone 5 user. I set up the same apple ID in both - my gmail address - and ipad has started picking up on imessages sent to my iphone 5. That is great - exactly what I needed

However my question for you is - is there any way to get my imessage history/transcript transfered to my new ipad from my iphone 5? Unfortunately I do not have a MAC and don't remeber doing any backup's or anything. All I have is my iphone 5, ipad mini and gmail address based Apple ID

Is there an app for that? Do I need to do the icloud back-up thing for that to work?

Thanks for al your help & insights!

Yep, backup your iPhone 5 to iCloud, then restore your iPad with that backup.

I'm not completely confident that this method will work, but if you think it's worth a try, go for it.

1. Plug you iPad into your computer and open iTunes.

2. Wait for your iPad to sync and transfer your purchases.

3. Create a backup of your iPad.

4. Plug your iphone into the computer and allow it to sync and transfer purchases as well.

5. Right click (ctrl click on OSX) on your iphone and choose "restore from backup"

6. Choose the backup of the iPad. Wait for restore and voila.

Tell me how it works out for ya. I'm kind of curious myself if this is a working method.

I believe you have this the other way around. You want to right click on the iPad and restore from the backup of the iPhone.

To OP: no need for a Mac, just download and install iTunes for Windows. Or, you could create an iCloud backup of your iPhone, then restore that to your iPad. Either way should work.

I am actually having the same problem, except in reverse. I have all the messages on my iPad and want it on my phone! Did this actually work?

backing up to itunes and restoring from itunes is the only way to bring iMessages from different devices at the present time

consider encrypting your backup
this will allow itunes to copy the device's secure keychain to the new device as well. the secure keychain is where the device stores web passwords, app passwords and wifi passwords. it not as important is at it used to be since iCloud keychain came out

without backup encryption , itunes only places the secure keychain on the same device

this does not backup fingerprints, or the newer "secure element" thats in the iPhone 6

I tried that and it didn't work (I tried, several times, backup the phone to iTunes then restore from backup on the iPad, when I booted up the iPad none of the messages from the phone were on it.
