I solved my problem by locating the backup and moving it to my Windows bootcamp and restoring from there. My issue was that itunes was not restoring because of some error.

You cannot transfer an iTunes backup to iCloud backup. You can make an iCloud backup on the device, but that’s it.

Hi,
I have the same issue and although it is not difficult, the solution is to purchase a software that simply look at your backup file and let you select photos, contacts etc and to move to another iPhone. I didn't decide to purchase it since I did expect to do it using a standard and free solution.

That has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Because this is the first link that popped up on google I thought I'd post a possible solution.

create "backup MobileSync" folder in iCloud Drive. Drag and drop backups from original MobileSync to the new folder in the iCloud Drive. You now have full backups of iphone backed up on iCloud.

Why would you want to do this? There is information on a "backup to mac" that is not on a backup to iCloud.

This would not work. You cannot access iCloud drive during the restore process. Thus, even if you were able to restore using this method (which you can't), you couldn't as the drive is inaccessible from the iOS set up screen. (Also this is almost a 6 year old thread).

You would need to copy the backup that you want to restore back to the original MobileSync folder, and then proceed with the restore as usual. (This thread was one of the top 3 links on google when i searched the topic and will be for others to find the relevant topic.)
