Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched and couldn't find anything exact.

I am new to the iPhone. Is it possible to transfer music from my PC to my iPhone?

I have CDs at home, I would like to rip them to my PC then transfer to my iPhone without having to buy the album all over again on iTunes.

    Is this possible?

Yes definately and this was the orignal purpose of iTunes. Rip the music import into iTunes and then you can sync the music to an iPhone or iPad etc. You can sync all music or select by album etc. You can also create playlists and sync them to your phone.

On Apple website there are instuctions for using iTunes and again one of its main purposes is to allow you to use your own music on other Apple devices.

    Congrats on the new iPhone!

You need to use iTunes to sync music to your phone. It also syncs other things- movies, TV shows, ringtones, photos (always import your photos prior to syncing), ibooks, contacts&calendars (unless you use icloud), but it does so all at once in a group. You can transfer photos and app & music purchases to your computer. Sync is from the computer to the phone, transfer is from the phone to the computer.

Other non-apple programs are out there that can do various things without affecting the other categories. For example, you can drag and drop music back and forth between the computer and iPhone without your photos being touched. iTunes does not allow you to move music from the phone into the computer unless it's a purchase from iTunes (which is basically just telling the iTunes Store yes I bought this song and yes this is my computer - authorization) Wondershare is one of these programs. I admit I'm not familiar with any others. I've always used iTunes. I don't actually have much music on my phone since I'm on wifi the majority of the time so I use iTunes in the Cloud.
