As far as I understand it should be possible to import files from camera to the new iPad Pro with USB-C port via USB-C to USB-C (?) cable.

Is that a hardware or software thing (iOS 12)? I was wondering whether the same would be possible with Lightning to USB-C cable on iOS12 with a bit older iPads...?

It works great with the new iPad and it is fast.

It also works on the 10.5 iPad Pro but it must also be plugged into the charger.
Do you mean - I have to use Micro USB on my camera for charging and USB-C to lightning cable for transfer simultaneously?

With the new iPad, it is simply USB-C from camera to iPad. (I’m using the Z7)

With the older iPad Pro you use the USB-A dongle and and USB-C to USB-A cable. Then you also have to plug a charger into the lightening port provided on the dongle. The older iPads do not have enough power to do this otherwise. I have used this while traveling for backup. It is not convenient but it works.

Of course, you can also use the SD dongle if your camera uses SD cards (mine does not).

Thank’s!
I knew about adapters. Just it would have been great if a single USB-C to Lightning cable worked... Well...”C’est la vie”

Works brilliantly with my Canon EOS R and my 11” iPad Pro. I also purchased the SD card reader from Apple, and think it may actually be faster from camera. Will have to test and confirm after I get more shots.

Sony’s .ARW files are saved as .TIF to iOS Photos app when transfered via Lihgtning or saved to Photos from Files app. Is that supposed to be a normal behaviour?

When .ARW is imported to Lightroom from Files app directly, the extention stays .ARW
