Transfer purchased music to new MobileMe account?

I have purchased many songs through iTunes using one account. I recently got a MobileMe account and would like to use that account for iTunes purchases, etc. Will that prevent me from being able to listen to my previously purchased music?

you can continue to listen to your music bought on the other account - your computer is authorised to do so.

That's true for music, but what about apps? Whenever there is an update to an app, it is tied to the account that originally purchased it.
