Transfer text conversation from one iPhone to another?

Is this transfer possible without having to go the route of one party backing up their phone's contents and the then recovering it on the other's phone?

It's a lengthy conversation, so having the one person forward each text to the other wouldn't be ideal. So I wanted to see if there was a way of backing up just your messages, so that they can be retrieved on another phone.

Any suggestion on how to pursue this/apps that may be helpful is appreciated.

1. Restore the new iPhone with iTunes from the backup for the old iPhone.
