I have old mini DV tapes I want to edit on my MacBook Pro 2021. My video camera is a Canon HDV Vixia HD40. What cable adapter I need in order to transfer video, the one I'm using don't recognize the camera. Thanks

You will need to have firewire input to transfer the video to your MBP. Apple makes a thunderbolt 2 > firewire dongle but you will also need a thunderbolt 4 > thunderbolt 2 dongle to connect it all together, and then you hope that your video editing software wil interface with the camera. You can also maybe find a thunderbolt 3/4 hub that has firefire, with the same hope.

There used to be several companies selling the hardware/software, back in the day for this, for the older cameras without firewire. With FW, it used to be plug and play, but that was many OSes ago, the last time I tried. This might be helpful to check the camera and the basic steps.
