I installed Windows 10 on my macbook (bootcamp) using a free upgrade from Windows 10.

I don't think I received a key or anything it is linked to the hardware and automatically activates... digital entitlement or something.

I'm selling my MBP due to upgrade, is it possible to install W10 on my new mac or is that licence now stuck on the old mac?

Thanks

Assuming its a retail box product you could move it to another device.
if its OEM version then it's lost - but saying that it couldn't really legally install on the mac in the first place.

It was one of those old MSDN licences, I had some lying around for Windows 7 home basic, I was able to install it and claim the free upgrade.

Windows 10 now allows you to directly enter a Windows 7 key. You will need an W10 installer from after the November update.

If you have not sold your MBP yet, and your license is a retail license, you can try this:

On your old MBP - remove the product key by going into Admin Command Prompt and typing:

slmgr.vbs /upk

On your new machine activate Windows with your license key.

This used to work in the past, and I have not tried it recently.
