I have installed Leopard on a brand new HD

The previous system (Panther) was cloned to an external hard drive.

I have run into a permission (authentication) nightmare
When I tried to migrate earlier files onto Leopard.

I can't move files around into folders without having to authenticate every time.

I even went as far as putting the old HD back in, booting Panther
copying Documents and Desktop folder to and external.
Then putting the Leopard Drive in back in ... bringing the files off the external hard drive.

At first I could move files into folder easily.
The next time I booted the machine .. I needed to authenticate again !!!

Change ownership. In terminal type,
sudo chown -R YourShortName /path/to/files

It will make all the files in that folder/disk read/write to you.
