Transfering Large Files From One Mac To Another

Do I need a special cord to transfer large files from one mac to another? Examples pictures etc...
Can I just plug usb between the two and go?
I really do not want to burn DVD or transfer to external HD....

You can connect them with either FireWire or Ethernet cable and use Migration Assistant or just transfer the files by hand
