transferring CD to iTunes why does it not put all tracks in one album ?

why does iTunes not put all the same tracks in to a CD I am transferring ? instead of every track as a album ? and any alternative music players to I tunes ?

Several things are necessary for tracks from different artists to be grouped as one album. Mark/select all relevant tracks, then:
- Album has to be the same for all tracks
- Album Artist has to be empty or the same for all tracks
- Compilation has to be ticked if Album Artist is empty
