My computers and backup were stolen last week. I'm trying to get my digital life back in order but I've run into a problem. I'm trying to get the contents of my iPhone (apps, app data, books, etc) on to my new MacBook. I tried contacting Apple but they said it's not possible. Is this true? Is there any way to get iPhone data to my Mac? I just want my data back:/

If you sign into iTunes with the same Apple ID that the content was purchased with, you should be able to recover everything but your ringtones. Transferring DRM data from your phone (books, movies, apps) is technically against Apple's Terms and Conditions, that's why the tech told you that. There are plenty of apps out there that are able to do it, but I would be wary if you decide to use them. Chances are you'll be able to recover almost all of your data using Apple's methods. Most of those programs came from a time when Apple had next to no other options available, so you had to have a major backup of all of your stuff.

First try what the previous post suggested. If you still need to recover apps and data to your new MacBook, there are several good third party applications which work well and are safe to use. I personally have used iExplorer successfully, however, it's not a free app. There is also iMazing which works well and is a bit less expensive.

I tried doing a transfer purchases but nothing happened. I didn't have any real media other than some books (not purchased through Apple).

I then read that since iOS 9, apps aren't transferred rather you have to redownload them. Once I redownload all these apps, will I be able to do a restore from a manual backup? Does "Erase and sync" erase app data or only iTunes media?
