Transferring Files Question

I'll be needing to transfer files music, documents photos etc. from my PC to my iMac when I asked a sales person at the Fifth Avenue NYC store they advised me to use my iPhone with iRip. Wouldn't it be easier using my DropBox once I install it on my iMac.

It wouldn't necessarily be "easier" to use DropBox because DropBox is slow. A better way would probably be an external hard drive or flash drive.
