My computer, a 2009 Mac mini, just died but I have a backup disk. Since I can't export/import bookmarks to Firefox on my new computer how can I go about transferring the bookmarks, please? I tried replacing the Profiles folder (~/Library/ApplicationsSupport/Firefox/Profiles) with the old one but nothing seems to have happened.

And while I'm on, do you know how to transfer personal information for Calendar and Contacts? Many thanks.

Try this. I make no promises.

Connect the backup drive.

Navigate to:
home/library/application support/firefox/profiles/bookmarks

On my copy of Firefox, which is older, I see a file named:
bookmarks.html

RIGHT CLICK (or control-click) on this file, and choose "open with firefox".
Does the file open and display all your bookmarks?

If it does, I'm thinking you want to copy this file to the appropriate location on the new Mac (replace the existing file). Firefox ought to be able to "find it" and use it to "build" the bookmarks menu.

If you get permissions problems, these can be fixed.

Something else you ought to tell us:
- What KIND of backup do you have?
- What app created it?
- Do you have the new Mac yet?
- Have you already set up a new account?

If NOT, why not use setup assistant (when you do the initial setup) to "bring everything over"...??

Thanks for your reply. I have no such file just a folder called bookmarksbackup.

My backup is a bootable Carbon Copy Cloner file and I've already set up a new account. I'd had the computer for twelve years and I decided it was time for a clean install which is why I've taken the route I have more complex though it is. And the computer was on Mojave, my "new" one being on Catalina.

I have another idea. If I could boot from the backup into my old Mojave computer I could open Firefox and export the bookmarks emailing the file to myself. Presumably this should work even though the hardware I'm using is different. What do you think?

That should work just fine.
Copy them to a USB flashdrive (or whatever you have available).
