HomePod transferring from iPhone to HomePod

On my iPhone Handoff is on but I tried transferring music from my iPhone to my Homepod and all I got was noise from my Homepod instead of the tune that I was trying to transfer from my Music App and my iPhone. Any ideas please what's happening.

Are you getting a vibration and notification on your phone saying the audio is being transferred?

To be honest I didn’t notice because I read a web page but it only said to look at the light I will look when I get home. Is it the same if you transfer a phone call as well I wonder?

Works for me when I hover the phone approximately 2” above the HomePod. I get a vibration and notification and it works great. Same is true for the reverse. Are you holding it too far? It might be trying to transfer but doesn’t quite make it. Haven’t tried transferring calls that way yet. I always just use the Airplay button on the iPhone call screen.
