Transferring into iPhoto

I have about 400 photos organized into folders in MY PICTURES on my pc. Can I transfer them into iPhoto and keep them in the folders (albums)?

I have them on a jump drive now.

Take one of the folders and drag it into iPhoto to see if you get the results you want. If so, repeat. If not, let us know the outcome vs. the desire.
