For quite some time, I've purchased movies from iTunes and transferred them to an external hard drive. I travel to remote areas with no WiFi and enjoy viewing movies on my Macbook Air. Lately, though, I find my downloaded movies are locked when I transfer them to my external drive. Is there a way to unlock them safely & legally?

Thank you.

What do you mean by locked?
You can move your library to external drive and point to it in iTunes and then manually sync items to your MacBook.

I've transferred 50 or 60 movies over the the external drive with no issues. On a movie I downloaded yesterday, I got the icon shown here:

It can't be opened with that simply click. The other movies play just fine but it's this one and a couple more I just purchased.

Have you upgraded OS recently or changed your internal drive.

I upgraded both my Macbook Pro and Macbook Air yesterday to Catalina 10.15.3. The internal drives on both machines are original.
