Transferring music library from iPhone to new iMac

Hi everyone,

I could really do with some help please, transferring the music from my iPhone to new iMac.

The hard drive on my 2015 iMac failed at the end of May and I lost all my music, videos and photos. Unfortunately I haven’t backed up my files to an external hard drive for a few years so I’ve potentially lost a lot of data 🙁 The old hard drive has gone to a data recovery specialist so fingers crossed they can do something with it.

In the meantime I’d like to transfer all the music from my iPhone to my new iMac. It consists of purchased music, imported music from CDs and mp3 files.

What app or method do you recommend so I can at least get all the music from my iPhone back, I’ve got 18,950 songs on my iPhone currently. I’ve seen something called iMazing, is that good?

I use and I like iMazing. It will handle your use case, just follow the guide on exporting music files.

You’ll probably see responses to this thread lambasting iMazing’s per iOS device licensing structure. People remember years ago when it was a flat license fee for unlimited devices. The switch left many angry. I think it’s worth every penny.

There are alternatives but I’ve never used them. I’ll let others suggest.

Is it easy to use, will it put my music in some sort of order that I can easily then import into iTunes?

Would be nice if I can see the exported playlists again in iTunes and not have to sort everything myself, but I’m prepared to spend some time sorting it out myself.
