First off:

IOS: 10.10.1
iPhoto: 9.6
Digital Camera RAW compatibility: 6.01

Camera: DSLR Nikon 5100

I downloaded my RAW images to iPhoto. The thumbnails and the photos look distorted, in most cases I cannot see any part of the actual picture itself. Sometimes, one picture is split with two different photos. Bottomline is it not working. If I click on a thumbnail to look at the picture, then go into editing the real picture shows, but this is the only time.

I can see the pictures in the finder and preview programs, they look great there.

I have tried deleting the images and transferring them again.

I tried:
- remove "RawCamera.bundle" and "RawCameraSupport.bundle" from the /System/Library/Coreservices Folder
(In Terminal.app: "cd /System/Library/CoreServices/", "sudo rm -r *Raw*" (WARNING, THIS REMOVES THE FILES INSTANTLY!))
- Reboot the system
- Re-Download the Raw Compatibility update 5.06 form Apple Support: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1757 and install it
- Restart, reprocess the affected files and order the photo book.

I thought the second attempt was successful, but it only showed thumbnails and no pictures.

Anyone have a solution?

Can you upload a sample raw file somewhere so others can try?

I tried to upload the file on to this forum, but they are too large. Even when I compress them they are still too large.

You can upload a file to Dropbox or similar service that you make publicly available and then post the link here. I haven't used Dropbox in a while but recall that is is an option.

The S100 is a point and shoot, not a 35mm DSLR. Unless I missed it, it is not included in Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 6.01

My bad. D5100 is indeed a 35mm DSLR.

Have you tried other the raw files in other programs like Picasa to see if they can correctly read them?

Good idea.
I had not tried another program. But just successfully put them into Picasa web. Which makes this very irritating, does it mean that I have to change some setting in iPhoto?

I tried one of your NEFs. Works fine in Aperture, Preview, etc etc for me on 10.10.1.

Didn't try iPhoto, but I would assume that since the Finder and Aperture and Preview rely on the same RAW components from the system iPhoto would be able to handle them.

And I'd go with the most recent RAW update, 6.01. Manually moving back to an earlier version didn't work; I'd try reinstalling the latest and see if that works. It's possible that mixing and matching won't work.

Thanks, I have not tried Aperture , but my pictures worked in Finder & Preview. They just suck in iPhoto, I can't see any part of the picture in most of the thumbnails let alone when I click on it to see the actual picture.

After hours of playing around I have found that: if I select a picture, the reprocess RAW, then edit it just a small amount (ie. changing the exposure by 0.01, or saturation by 1) it will appear fine in the thumbnail and picture. BUT ONLY IF I edit the picture in anyway first. I have looked through preferences and every menu I could find to no avail. I just cannot seem to get them to transfer into iPhoto correctly the first time.
