I'm getting the new MBP to replace my Black Macbook. This is backed up on an external HD through time machine, but when i get my new mac i want to be able to transfer only my music and photos and videos to the new machine. How can i do this? The guy at the apple store said a combination of Ethernet cable and a program called 'SuperDuper' will sort this out? Can anyone attest to this, or does anyone have a better method?

thanks

Yes, you can use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to make a clone of your current drive to the external drive. From there, you can pick and choose your files, or you can use Migration Assistant to do that work for you. However, you can use Migration Assistant with your Time Machine Backup as well.

Yes, you will need either an Ethernet or Firewire connection to do this.
