I have windows 7 installed in bootcamp.

I made it a VM for Fusion 3. Installed VMWare Tools.

If I wanted to transition to Parallels 5...

Would I (most likely), uninstalled VMWare Tools, reboot.

Then tells Paralells to make Bootcamp a VM.. then install the Parallels Tools.

My basic wonder, is can I do this. or will I have to fully reinstall the entire bootcamp partition to make the switch.

    Thanks

Out of paranoia, I would do this:

    Uninstall VMWare Fusion
Boot into Boot Camp, remove VMWare tools.
    Reboot Boot Camp.
    Reboot back to OS X.
You should now have a clean Boot Camp partition.
    Install Parallels.
    Import Boot Camp partition.

You can link VMware Fusion 3 and Parallels 5 to the SAME boot camp partition. They just can't be running at the same time. I have it linked that way since I own a copy of both software.

Does this cause completely insane Activation Nightmares? I know I had to call them up on the phone after the first VM hah

I did it for Boot Camp, then for VMWare Fusion then once more for Parallels. Now it's all activated no matter how I access it.

I have both installed, but they don't run at the same time. Fusion runs vmware tools when fusion runs and vice versa.

same here...no problems having both installed at the same time using your Bootcamp partition...just don't run them both at the same time.
