My iMac is about to go out to pasture so I'm going to remove the new-ish SSD I had put into it and move it to my wife's laptop. I'm thinking of trying a straight-up swap -- i.e. no reformatting and rebuilding, just take out the old, pop in the new, fire up the machine. I figure worst case if the laptop rejects it or seems to run sub-optimally because it was built for a different model or architecture, I'll do a fresh build at that point, then maybe use Migration Assistant to copy back docs, pics, vids, etc.

Question I have is if anyone's aware of any harmful effects to the hardware from trying something like this?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks. Should've mentioned both machines are on Mountain Lion and are on auto-update so should be on the latest releases.
