Trash Bin won't delete time Machine Backups

Hi, what is going on with back ups that I delete? I wanted to make room in my external HD by deleting Time Machine back ups but notice when I delete a whole back up, it stops deleting and says that aperture trial is in use, do i want to continue? I continue and its repeated through out the deletion then it just stops and I notice nothing is deleted from the trash bin. O also get "local" is in use, as well as "iPhoto Library" is in use."

Try a secure delete

hold command when clicking on trash

I had a similar problem deleting my TimeMachine backup on an external drive. I ended up just reformatting it.

For some strange reason, I booted up today and the Trash Bin was empty. Was it that it was just taking long to delete it all?
