Trash cannot be emptied, file locked.

When I try to empty the trash, there are error messages.
eg. "Cannot complete operation, file XYS.BMP is locked".
But I can not find the offending files.
What can be done?

First, try "Secure Empty Trash" from the Finder menu...that frequently does the trick.

restart should do the trick..

once restarted, you should be able to empty the trash..

open terminal

type "cd ~/.Trash"
hit enter

type "rm XYS.BMP"
hit enter

close terminal

N.B.: Do not include the quotes.
