Can you post a pic of your Mail app view where you normally saw it? Also what macOS version are you on?

What if you delete something now - does it reappear? Also, what does your settings here look like? Does your IMAP settings have the Trash set up correctly?

Yes, that ought to work. I initially thought that the sidebar Trash icon was gone.
