Anyone traveling this week or next? Just asking. I do not plan on it but if I had to I guess.

Main reason I am asking is because does anyone think things will go smoothly sense it is spring break time? In the US. Not sure if there is spring break in other countries sorry. :(

I will be traveling to France over spring break (which I'm looking forward to—haven't been in awhile). I hope it's all smooth-sailing, although I'm not sure obviously.

Actually, now that I think about it, this will be the fifth month in a row that I've traveled:
  • November - went to El Paso with my Spanish class, but we drove, so there were no issues
  • December - drove to Colorado Springs for Christmas; no issues
  • January - traveled to Ohio for an audition; no issues
  • February - traveled to Wisconsin for another audition; flight from Chicago to Appleton was canceled, so we had to drive. That was a bit of an issue to say the least.
So really in all the five times I've traveled recently, only one trip has had a major problem. So let's hope this next trip is like the other four!

I been to Europe but only once. :( I went to Sweden.

Have fun!

Enjoy.

I love France, the country, the culture, the history, the art, museums, and, of course, that beautiful language. Oh, and the food, the cuisine, cheese, wines.....

Anyway: Where do you plan to visit when travelling to France?

Yeah, I've gone once before in 2018, and absolutely loved it! My dad takes his students every few years, too.

Cool.

I wish I was bilingual but I will never be. It would be really nice. Suck when it comes to learning new languages. Though I still enjoy them.

I mean I could not call myself bilingual, although I do know a fair bit of Spanish from studying it at school. Spanish has come in incredibly handy, so I'm glad I know it. I don't speak French though, so that might be a bit of a problem on this trip lol

Yeah I only know very little French because I took it in school. Still I sucked at it.

They say in France the locals, at least in Paris, do not like to speak in English or help tourists too much. I forgot where I heard that. I could be totally wrong though it may not be like that in Paris with the locals.

I do know someone who favorite place to visit in Europe were small towns in Germany! I plan to visit there too one day.

A lot or most of my friends irl know Spanish but one really well. They are like from Honduras like his Dad was. Can't remember about his Mom though. Guessing so.

It used to be like that, but it's such a touristy place and with a younger generation now working in relevant industries, it's no longer much of an issue.

That may have been (in fact, probably was) the case years ago, when it did help to have at least a little French, or to try to make some effort to communicate with a few words of the language.

However, this is not the case now, certainly not in Paris, as @adrianlondon rightly remarks, and, as I can attest from personal experience on a trip to Paris in recent years.

Exactly.

It sucks that you will have to pay to enter Europe in 2024.

Things are a little bit sticky over here at the moment I'm afraid.
President Macron is trying to change the pension entitlement so retirement age will be raising to 74 instead of 72 and there are an awful lot of strikes and demonstrations right now
The biggest problem is disruption to public transport. There has to be a minimum service cover by law and frankly things haven't been all that bad but if it's a strike day there can be some disruption. You may well be visiting somewhere else other than Paris and taxis and Uber are still not a problem.
Covid is pretty much dead here now.
My wife is currently in NY so travelling other way at the moment but she had an unusually easy time getting through the airport so with a bit of luck that will go well for you.
I personally find Paris pretty dirty these days so you might have a shock. It's thanks to a loony mayor who thinks spending money on cleaning is a waste of money and prefers to spend it on ripping up parking spaces and creating bike lanes.
Also watch out for the electric scooters on the pavements everywhere. A real menace.
Have a nice time. It's still a wonderful country.

Paris has always been, or seemed to be, a bit dirty. I've gotten used to it.

At least it's not quite the dogpoo-laden place it used to be, but it still requires one to look at the pavement when walking around!

Didn't notice the e-scooters so much a few weeks ago, and I'm actually in favour of removing car parking spaces and adding bike lanes, but that's because I don't live there nor own a car.

As for the strikes: there's also some maintenance being done to the RER line to CDG which meant taking a bus last time I had to do it. The bus was actually quite fast (as it didn't stop - it just went from one of the metro stations right to the airport) and they assumed you'd bought an RER ticket already so it was free :)

Spring Break is a busy travel time. Beyond that you can flip a coin as to what kind of experience you’ll have. The most pressure is usually on aircraft travel when there is any disruption. Travel by car has the most options, but usually takes longer for any kind of a distance.
