    Hi All
Due to go to Europe from Australia in 4 days time - I've unlocked my iPhone from Telstra but they assured me the iPad1 is not locked so could be used with prepaid sim/data card. In Italy. Is this correct? Who has done this? Any problems?
    Thanks

    I've done this - you shouldn't have a problem.

    Sorry but you are incorrect.

Many ipads in the UK are locked to network providers so will only work with that network sim card.

Result = not all iPads are unlocked.

True. All iPads in the USA are sold unlocked. I live in Orlando. See tons of tourists buying iPads in apple store to most likely bring it back home.

If it was sold in the USA it is unlocked. Where was the iPad initially purchased?

I bought it from Apple store. People bought iPad/iphone from oversea and sell them in the U.S. via Craigslist or eBay who knows? :apple:

If you bought a iPad on a long-term contract, your iPad is likely to be locked. Otherwise, everyone would just buy a cheap operator-subsidized iPad/iPhone, and use another SIM from the discount operator or MVNO (Mobile virtual network operator).

However, no iPad in the US is sold with a long-term contract, therefore, no iPad will be locked if you bought it here. This is not true in the rest of the world.

Afaik docomo in Japan is or was the only carrier to sim lock an iPad.
